Historical Origin

Chile · 🇺🇸 American

The Araucana is the original blue egg layer from the Araucanian people of Chile, notable for being rumpless (no tail) and having ear tufts rather than a crest. Their blue eggs are the genetic source of all other blue-egg breeds. A rare and historically significant breed that remains challenging to breed due to a lethal gene associated with their tufted trait.

Temperament & Behavior

This breed is classified as active with a noise level of moderate and excellent foraging ability. Broodiness tendency: rarely.
