The Java is the second-oldest American breed, developed in the early 1800s and the foundation stock for many other American breeds including the Plymouth Rock and Jersey Giant. Nearly extinct at one point, they are now being revived by heritage breed enthusiasts. Hardy foragers with a calm temperament and genuine historical significance.
