The Shamo is a massive Japanese game breed imported from Thailand in the 17th century and refined for centuries as a fighting bird. Standing nearly upright with hard, tight feathering and powerful muscles, they are one of the heaviest and most imposing chicken breeds. Today they are kept as show birds and for their historical significance, requiring experienced handling and separation from other birds.
